On 9th April 2013 Breadshare was approved as a member of the Scottish Organic Producers Association (SOPA) and is now fully certified as an organic processor.
This doesn’t mean our products will be more expensive, or better tasting than before. We have always used top quality organic products and a recent price rise in organic flour was half that of the non-organic product. This certification provides you with that added assurance that every single ingredient, from the Kalamata olives in our olive and pumpkin seed loaf to the mature cheddar in our cheese breads, is fully traceable and comes from trusted sources.
Becoming organically certified required many changes to our production processes in the bakery and we were able to achieve this through funding from Firstport.
Thanks to Firstport and the Social Entrepreneurs Fund for assistance.
Why is Organic Important?
We wanted our products to be organic for the following reasons:
- So you can have confidence that our ingredients are supplied from trusted sources
- Contains only natural ingredients, with no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
- Free from pesticides
- Respects the soil using natural fertilisers
- No hydrogenated fats
So when you next buy our products look for the new labelling showing they are certified organic and as such, are better for the environment and better for you.
